It’s been a pretty impressive weekend for sports. Not only has the Tour de France kicked off in Belgium, but the Downhill World Cup from Windham was live on Red Bull TV and we had a great day in Cardiff for our 5th Birthday party.

Tour de France 2012

The first Yellow Jersey of 2012 went to world time trial champion, Fabian Cancellara with Bradley Wiggins in second. If Wiggins is looking for a win against Cadel Evans, he’s got the first strike but it’s on a few seconds lead – and we all know the Tour is won by minutes not seconds, so there’s a long way to go. You can catch all the action on the Tour web page and on ITV.

Windham – World Cup DH

In Windam the UCI World Cup came around just a week after the last one in Mt Saint Anne. Aaron Gwin was, well, being Aaron Gwin and took both the top spot in qualification and on the day. Greg Minnaar come close but couldn’t do enough for the win. Steve Peat lost the back tyre in one of the rock gardens and although they had a great run, Danny Hart and Gee Atherton could only manage 4th and 3rd behind Steve Smith.

In the womens’ race a great run for Rachel Atherton saw her take the podium. However both Tracy Hannah and Emmeline Ragot finished with more drama than the Eastenders Christmas special – Tracy cased the huge step down at the bottom of the track and managed to take her saddle completely off the bike in one go while Emmeline actually hit the deck but got back up to to run across the line and still finished 3rd. Rachel was also subject to a commissaires enquiry after a rough landing on a road gap took her through a tape.
