Panniers and Racks
History
Panniers were first designed and patented specifically for bicycles by John B. Wood in 1884. However, the modern bicycle pannier was invented by Hartley Alley in 1971 who also designed a handlebar bag and other bicycle luggage that he manufactured and sold under the Touring Cyclist brand in the 1970s until his retirement in 1984.
Racks
- Panniers can be fitted to the front or back of a bike with the right mounts built into the frame.
- Pannier bags mount simply to a pannier rack – obviously the rack is attached to your bike and the bags can be removed and carried.
- Pannier bags come in many forms and are designed for carrying anything from laptops, to clothes and anything else you would like to carry.
If you are a commuter or need to carry any sort of load then a pannier bag would make a perfect solution. Panniers come in many shapes, sizes and functions so whether you are carrying a laptop, clothes or paperwork, there will be a pannier bag to suit you.
